Staatsoper Stuttgart conducting his first performance at the Phil. Richard Strauss's Ein Heldenleben or 'A Hero's Life' has been labelled by critics as a shameless self-promotion on Strauss's part, reflecting the knowledge that Strauss once said that he found himself as interesting a subject for study as Napoleon! However it could be argued that this self-portrait might not have been meant to be taken too seriously as Strauss is quoted as saying to a friend ‘I haven’t the necessary strength, I am not cut out for battle; I prefer to withdraw, to be quiet, to have peace’.

German-born cellist Johannes Moser makes his Liverpool debut to perform Haydn's lyrical and leisurely Concerto in D, known for the exquisite beauty of its Adagio.

Seat numbers

• At present, we are unable to tell you your seat numbers when booking tickets. However, seats are allocated by the theatre as soon as you book your tickets and will be the best available at the time of booking. All seats in a booking will, of course, be together in the theatre, but in the very unlikely event of this not being possible we will call you and give you the option of cancelling your booking
