Basic hotel which, due to it's fantastic location does offer good value for money. Is clean and if you're looking for somewhere to get your head down after a night out in Manchester, this is the place!!

Fantastic location in the heart of the city, the room was clean and well presented. The mattress on the bed was a little worn out however was still comfortable. Would definately stay here again.

My honest view of this Hotel is that it provides value for money. It has a great central location for access to usual city centre facilities, however the accomodation is basic. The Hotel has a very grand status let down by poor decoration throughout. Having said that a notice at reception states that a major redecoration process is being undertaken and any disruption will be kept to a minimum.

JIt just wasn't what you'd expect from a modern Hotel, love,ly building etc but for a modern nights stay it didn't match up. Very disappointing.

Room was described as having air conditioning but not and only had a VERY small skylight window, which was pretty useless and there were no other windows in the room. It was so hot could not sleep! Lamp was broken in the room and the bed sheet has a hole in it. Other than that it was very nice. Excellent location, beautiful building, good price and had a nice restaurant and bars in the basement. The room let it down though.

We paid £89 for a double room for 1 night. The hotel was clean and well presented and staff were friendly and helpful. Would have been even better if breakfast was included in the price.

I found the Brittania to be a very tired old Hotel. The room provided had no window although in fairness to the hotel this was advised. The cost compares roughly with Travelodge \ Travel Inn prices but the qualitiy of the accommodation provided does not.

It was certatinly cheap and cheerful. The room was grotty, even though I was upgraded to a double, it was very tatty and the bed was very old and lumpy. It made me feel sad to be away from home. The staff, however, were absolutley lovely, especially on reception and the breakfast was OK.

The hotel is in a superb location however it is in need of refurbishment and modernising without losing the aged feel. The blankets on the bed are also a major no no!

Overall our stay at the hotel was finetwo niggles arose. 1 was the time we had to clear the hotel we thought it was 12pm the staff said it was 11am so we were 1hour late.On checking our paperwork later it stated clearly 12pm? 2 our room was directly above a late night disco club,the music was so loud it felt like we were in the club

Fast check in with courteous staff. Lunchtime Pizza offer is good value. Waitress took real pride in her job - lovely to see. Room clean & pleasant though chest of drawers needed repairing. Drop price by further £10 per night & I'd say excellent! Perfect location for Manchester night out and they are legend! LOL

Nice hotel, though be aware if you end up on the ground floor you are on top of the nighclub. Hotel should mention this on checking-in.

This hotel is perfect for easy access to the city centre. The main bus station is across the road and it is about a 45 minute bus ride to the Trafford Centre. Hotel was beautiful and the staff were very helpful and friendly. I will definately be going back!

The Brittania was great, so much character in the decor, furnishings, etc. I was given a really lovely room. Wireless internet access throughout the hotel at no extra charge. Excellent weekend, hope to stay at the Brittania again soon.

The Britannia in Manchester was great. The staff were very friendly and the location is perfect. You could not get closer to the bars and clubs if you tried. Having Piccadilly station just around the corner was very handy too. I would certainly book into there again if I were to visit Manchester.

The Hotel was impressive, beating my expectations and was a pleasure to stay in. The service was OK, not spectacular but did the simple things well. It's location was perfect, 10 mintutes walk from the City centre and near to every travel link.

This central Manchester city hotel made it a good choice for the exhibition centre and China Town. The Hotel has very interesting interior architecture and is not just a "box of rooms". Staff were very helpful and rooms clean.

Our initial hotel room was of questionable standard. Lamps didn't work and more importantly heating didn't work. When we contacted staff to comment/complain they were excellent however and upgraded us immediately and even sent someone to help us move our luggage. 10/10 to the staff, but the hotel is old and a rooms a little sad looking and would benefit from some tlc. All that is needed is there but feels a bit unloved.

The traffic noise outside the hotel was fairly loud, even though our room was on the 5th floor.We ate in the Pizza restaurant in the hotel and the food was very low standard. We also passed on breakfast, even though it was included in the room rate, because the restaurant cleanliness was below par.

Everything with regards to Last minute was good.Unfortunately despite the promise of the room being available from 2pm when I got there it wasn't.I was offered a smoking room alternative which I had to take because I had a meeting to go to and didn't have time to hang around for another hour until the none smoking room I booked was available.The room stank it was horrendous and while I would say Last Minute are a good option to use for ease I would suggest checking room availabilty on the day of booking.

The treatment received from the Brittannia Hotel, Portland Street, Manchester was terrible. The key card wouldn't work and after several attempts, the staff (less than helpful) gave a master key to use. The room was right over the dancefloor of 'The Wave' nightclub and the noise was terrible with the furniture vibrating. Complained at 1.00am and was told to take it up with LastMinute - at 1.00am??!! After staging sit in in reception was finally given a different room (which they origianally said didn't exist)Got to room went to have a cuppa because needed to calm down and kettle did not work!! Extremely unhelpful staff. Do not hold Last Minute responsible at all - was the staff attitude and shoddy service that was the real problem.

Original room was shockingly small and old fashioned, with a very small window which made it dark. Paid for an upgrade to a "Spa bath" room. Huge room, but again very old fashioned and tatty. TV didn't work. No spa bath, just normal bath which was dirty. When questioned about the "Spa" bath the answer from reception was "Well the website must mean 'bubble bath' - there is a small bottle of it next to the bath." Hotel is very dated. Would not recommend anyone to go there ever - there's plenty of choice around Manchester. We were just so glad we were not one of the people who had to pay the normal hotel rates, they must feel robbed, the standard of hotel is that poor.

Overall the hotel was good. Check in was efficient and pleasant. Housekeeping were very quick, and the room was clean and tidy. However there was no radiator or heater in my room and it did get quite cold at night. Also at £10.85 the I expected a stonking breakfast but was very disappointed. So my top tip to anyone staying here is to go out for breakfast!

Although the hotel was easy to book and a perfect location for my purposes, there were issues with the cleanliness of the room which I felt could have been avoided had the hotel checked properly. I also requested an alarm call which was never received and the main light in my room did not work in the morning when I was in a hurry. This meant that I had to get ready using the light from the bathroom. In addition to this when I approached the hotel with the issues I experienced they did not convince me they would do anything to prevent these from arising again and next time I would pay a higher price for a hotel that seemed to value customer service.

The Britannia was busy with Christmas shoppers & party-goers alike, but my stay was hassle free. The room description wasn't quite as accurate as I'd hoped, the turret room was quite big but also the decor a little tired. It was also cold and took a while to warm up. Otherwise it's a busy, yet friendly and personable hotel.

What a time warp! With wallpaper out of a 1970s Indian restaurant, grand staircases and fading grandeur, this hotel is well located - but crying out for investment.

This is a very fine hotel. Situated in a great part of Manchester. Its not to far from the Piccadilly train station, and easy to find. All the makor attractions are near by. The staff were very friendly, and always helpful. I will definately stay in this hotel again if I am ever in Manchester.

Lovely traditional hotel, very clean, staff efficient, central to everything, expected crummy room due to the great rate but got huge corner room with 2 huge windows! Big comfy beds and cotton sheets. Lovely!
