Description

Venue: Derby Cathedral    When: Daily

Derby Cathedral dominates the local skyline with its impressive perpendicular tower, the second-highest in England. It was largely built early in the 16th century, but worship has taken place on this site since the 10th century. Its iron screen (by Derby smith Robert Bakewell) is a masterpiece, so intricate that it appears like lacework.

The cathedral houses many monuments, including that of Bess of Hardwick.

The Cathedral Centre accross the road hosts an exhibition area and Treasury, as well as a coffee shop. The Irene Ackers garden there was planted to represent a journey through the life of Jesus.
