What you said
Location good for central birmingham, clean, funcitonal hotel with no frills and good value for money. Staff pleasant and happy to help. Rooms are very 1980's and could do with an upgrade but you get what you pay for!

Very good service offered by this hotel. Unfortunately, there are a limited number of car parks and I had to park on a multi-storey car park & cross a busy 4-lane road.

The young man at reception created a good impression but it went down hill from there. The breakfast was overpriced; with a 50 per cent discount it still cost £8. Other food was unrealistic too; room service being a fine example of how to blow £20+ on a snack. The swimming pool is closed, due to "the high cost of staffing it" - so it is there, but bone dry. The room was big but basic and dated, I hurt my hand closing the window mechanism and the min-bar fridge had been removed. The morning call was on time and it was a real person, probably the efficient bloke who checked me in at reception. The view from my room was the rear aspect of a concrete building and a loading bay. My first experience of Copthorne tells me they have lost the plot and my first vist will probably be my last. Good luck to the one staff member who did a good job, I hope he gets a job in a good hotel.

We booked a package that included dinner and at £10 per head excess that was value in itself (restaurant price £19 per head. Was surprised to learn that we could have upgraded restaurants absolutely free (but the upgraded restaurant didn't open early enough for us damn it!!)We also got offered 50% off breakfast and enjoyed a couple of full english's in our room as a result...certainly excellent value all round. Well done Last Minute and nice one Copthorne!!

We had an excellent stay at the hotel, as Birmingham is my home town it was nice to stay in the heart of the city. The food in the Turner Grill restaurant was first class. I would say the only negative was that the pool had been closed and we had planned on using the gym then relax by the pool prior to eating but all in all it was a great weekend

Warning- some other sites (not lastminute.com) quote this hotel as having a swimming pool. It doesn't. Otherwise, friendly staff (if not all highly trained). We had a lovely meal in Turner's grill.

Good location somewhere between city centre and Birmingham's version of the London Eye wheel. Note that access into the city centre involves walking through a food court complex which is a bit strange (and smelly.) From the outside the hotel appeared to be a grotty service station hotel but it turned out to be nice inside. Didn't try the restaurant but it looked ok. Rooms were spacious and bathroom clean. No swimming pool even though it was advertised. Next time I'd try the Burlington because that looked lovely but based on value for money this hotel was good.

Fantastic deal from lastminute as rooms were advertised as starting at over £100! breakfast was average, but you had a wide choice and we managed to get it half price by asking the night before.very comfy to stay in and well worth going.

We arrived at the Copthorne hotel at approximately 12.45, thinking that we could check in at 12.00 noon. However, our rooms were not ready and they could not tell us when they would be. They just suggested we take a seat and wait. Not long after, one of the 3 rooms became available so at least we could leave our bags and go out for the afternoon. It was a job we didn't have a wedding or matinee performance of a show to go to, as we wouldn't have been able to get ready! No compensation or even much of an apology was offered. Nevertheless we had a good weekend and the stay was excellent over all.

I thought that while the hotel was of a reasonable standard it wasn't worthy of 4*, and if I hadn't had got a very good rate from lastminute.com I would have been annoyed if I'd paid the full rack rate!

The hotel is olrite , but for the service and facilities it doesnt even deserve a 3 star. It should be given 2 star . More like a bed & breakfast. Booked into Apex Hotel in Edinburgh through the same website whihch was a 4 star . The quality and service of Copthrone wouldnt come anywhere near Apex.Z H

The staff were really helpful and even took us across to the Italian and introduced us to the staffIdeal location for our first stay in Birmingham enjoyed the big wheel and also the iceskating. The bar could have been better they were having trouble with the pumps so the beer was warm.Nobody told us on arrival that the pool was not available and had not been for 6 months.Breakfast was lovely but feel could be included in the priceWould stay there again and would recommend it to family and friends

Great location, great food. The room was very pleasant, if a little 'tired'.I upgraded to the Suit, wich cost an additional £100.00, however, the TV/movie/Internet service was not working, and we couldn't control the temperature of the shower (no discount offered); however the spa bath was excellent. The staff were very pleasant and helpfull, although I did have problems getting Champagne delivered to the room. The swimming pool was nicely positioned, but the steam room area was in need of renovation, and the gym was a little small. Over all it was good value for money at the LastMinute.Com prices.

Our stay overall was very good. The Copthorne staff werefriendly and helpful. We had a much reduced rate through lastminute.com and I suspect we had the 'shabbier' rooms at the top of the hotel. Put it this way... excellent for what I paid but if I had paid the full rate of £180a night...I would have expected a much nicer standard of room.
