The most European of the Turkish resorts, Marmaris has a sophisticated Riviera feel to it. The town is set in a huge, sweeping bay and surrounded by dramatic, pine covered mountains. The seafront is lined with palms and a long, narrow sand and shingle beach. If you venture into the Old Quarter; Netsel Marina, you will find a more Turkish atmosphere with a marina, smart quayside restaurants and an open-air amphitheatre cinema. Head to the aptly named Bar street for entertainment well into the small hours.
