Description

Venue: Riza Cavus Thermal Baths    When: Daily

The Riza Cavus thermal springs, whose curative properties have been known for millennia, are located just near the quiet resort of Dalyan on Turkey's Turquoise Coast. Visitors can cover themselves with a layer of mud, then soak in hot mineral water until they feel on top of the world!

Good for the treatment of rheumatic, dermatological and gynaecological diseases, as well as neurological and physical exhaustion, the baths can be reached from Dalyan by small boats. The thermal spring is located where Lake Koycegiz narrows into a channel parallel to the larger Dalyan River, which in turn empties into the Mediterranean at one of Turkey's most spectacular beaches, lztuzu. This 6km golden sand beach is a breeding ground of the loggerhead sea turtle.

The reed-lined river meanders toward the sea, overlooked by 4th-century BC Lycian rock tombs. Nearby are the ruins of the ancient city of Caunos.

The mud and mineral baths can accommodate 1000 people per day. Velibey Thermal Baths, a second spring 1.5 km north of Riza Cavus, has similar qualities. Also worth discovering are the waters of Sultaniye River, which are good for bathing and drinking.
