Discover the very best of Switzerland on this 8-day tour through some spectacular mountains and past sparkling blue lakes. Starting your journey in Lucerne the holiday follows the famous Golden Pass train route over the Bruenig Pass to Interlaken and on to Montreux on the ‘Swiss Riviera’ (Lake Geneva ). There is plenty of time to explore the different area during the holiday and 3 exciting excursions are included – in particular a day trip on the Chocolate Train.

Itinerary

Day 1: Flight from the UK to Zürich. 1st class rail transfer to Luzern. Overnight in Luzern.

Day 2: Day at leisure. Take advantage of the included Half Fare Card (offering 50% discounts on trains, boats, buses and cable cars) and explore the surrounding mountains such as Mt Rigi and Mt Pilatus or enjoy a cruise on Lake Lucerne. Overnight in Lucerne.

Day 3: Depart from historic Lucerne and enjoy the first part of the Golden Pass route over the Bruenig Pass to Interlaken, passing blue lakes, green meadows and age old chalets along the way. Overnight in Interlaken.

Day 4: Excursion to the Jungfraujoch. Visit the highest railway station in Europe at 11,300ft (3,454m) with some breathtaking views of the Aletsch glacier, the longest in the Alps and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Overnight in Interlaken.

Day 5: Excursion to First one of Grindelwald’s ‘house’ mountains. The aerial gondola takes you to the summit (7,112ft / 2,168m) and of the most impressive views of the Swiss Alps. You can also start many easy and level walks from here, which are ideal to explore the alpine world around you on foot and at your own leisure. Overnight in Interlaken.

Day 6: Board the Golden Pass train for the journey in the 1st class panorama carriage from Interlaken to Montreux. Do not miss the great views of Lake Geneva and its terraced vineyards. Overnight in Montreux

Day 7: In the morning board the Chocolate train and enjoy coffee and a croissant en route to Gruyere. Once there you will visit one of the many cheese factories in the area. Afterwards take the train to Broc and visit the Nestle/Cailler chocolate factory and attend a chocolate tasting. Overnight in Montreux.

Day 8: Rail transfer to Zürich or Geneva. Return flight to the UK.

The terminals are connected internally on three levels.

Driving Directions

The airport is located at the centre of Switzerland’s road network with excellent connections to cities, including Zurich, Bern, Basel and St Gallen on the A20.

Car Parking

There are three covered car parks next to the terminals and a further car park a short distance away. The open-air P60 car park provides remote long-term parking and is linked to the airport by bus. Valet parking is available.

Car Hire

Companies located in car park 2 include Alamo/National, Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt.

Public Transport

Rail: The airport has a Swiss Federal Railways Station located under Terminal B, with trains to central Zurich and many city and tourist destinations across Switzerland. Road: Taxi: Taxis (tel: (0)1 800 7777) can be found outside terminals 1 and 2. Bus: The bus terminal is located next to car park 2; several regular bus lines serve regional towns and villages. An excellent night bus network connects the airport to destinations all over Switzerland.

Information and Help Desks

Information welcome desks are located in the Arrivals halls of both terminals and in the new check-in area 3. FASTpoint terminals, located throughout the airport, provide information on airport facilities, shopping amenities, flight and train schedules, maps and directories, as well as a range of other services.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: There are banks, which also provide bureau de change services, a post office and nine FASTpoint terminals providing telephone, fax and photocopying facilities. Wireless Internet is available too. Eating and drinking: Restaurants, coffee shops, snack bars and take-away facilities are available. Shopping: Shops, including duty-free, are also available. There is an Airport Shopping Centre, one level above check-in area 3. Luggage: There is a lost property office which deals with Swiss enquiries. A porter service is available. Trolleys are available free of charge. There is a left-luggage desk in Terminal 1 Arrivals; lockers are available too. Other facilities: The airport has a medical and dental centre, pharmacies, prayer rooms and nurseries.

Conference and Business Facilities

The Unique Conference Centre (tel: (0)43 816 3422; e-mail: conferencecentre@ uniqueairport.com) has 36 rooms of varying size accommodating up to 120 delegates, and facilities for business seminars, meetings and conferences. The conference centre reception desk also offers a fax machine, photocopier, telephone booths, shredder, secretarial services, interpreting and flight and hotel reservations.

Disabled Facilities

Facilities include accessible toilets and telephone booths, ramps and lifts. Disabled parking spaces are available in car park 2. There are special assistance desks in the Departures halls for travellers with special needs; passengers using this service should report no later than 90 minutes before departures. Passengers requiring wheelchairs and special assistance should inform their airline prior to travel. Porters can be hired to assist disabled travellers between the airport and the railway station.
