Engelberg Travel

A traditional Swiss mountain village by origin, Engelberg is a friendly and family welcoming ski resort. It nestles high in a sheltered valley with the major cities of Lucerne and Zurich only a short distance away, its ease of access being an important factor in the resort's continuing fashionable status. It has gradually evolved from an elegant Victorian Spa town, to today's nostalgia-fuelled love of a skiing past. The nightlife is as lively as you want to make it, with a good choice of clubs and bars, and even a resort casino; non-skiers can amuse themselves with skating, paragliding and tobogganing.

There are two ski areas on either side of the valley where a good choice of runs are available, all accessible via a modern lift system and especially good for intermediates, yet catering to all levels. The high altitude guarantees a long season suiting all levels including experts, with the sunny pastures of Brunni, on the other side of the town, forming an ideal beginner and intermediate ski area; a terrain park at Engstlen-Jochpass, can also be found, offering a 20km cross-country course. The high mountains lend themselves to ski touring, but the Titlis Glacier is heavily crevassed and a local guide is essential. Dramatic and demanding off-piste runs including a powder bowl with an enormous 1,120m vertical drop can also be found.
