Description

Venue: Maison Tavel    When: Daily; not Mon

For a feel of the old Geneva there's no better place than Maison Tavel, home to the wealthy Tavel family in the 14th century.

Today the single-towered house in the heart of the Vieille Ville has been turned into a museum, but it has retained a personal touch. A trip around its curious rooms, packed full of paintings and antique furniture, offers an insight into Genevois life from the 14th to 19th centuries.

Viewable in its entirety, from the cellars to the attic, the house is devoted to the urban history and daily life of the city. Objects, drawings, engravings and photographs, coins, furniture and collections of silver all bear witness to the city's past, from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the 20th century.

Make sure you climb up the stairs to the attic, almost entirely filled with a fascinating model of 1850s Geneva.
