Situated in the beautiful Jungfrau Region, the traditional village of Wengen is surrounded by stunning mountainous scenery. The traffic-free village hosts some splendid and unusual ice caves, which prove quite a draw for curious holidaymakers. The sedate, unspoilt streets host plenty of bars and restaurants offering typical Swiss ambience, this means that in fine weather dining and drinking al fresco is a joy. Many happy hours can be spent just soaking up Wengen's old-world ambience. Non-skiers have plenty to occupy themselves with, including daytrips to nearby Mürren and Interlaken.
As with Grindelwald, Wengen offers superb views of the Eiger Mountain and its surroundings - generally taken to be nothing less than awesome. The resort's skiing is very good for intermediates and beginners, and the ski schools are reputed to be excellent. Advanced skiers and boarders usually enjoy the adequate off-piste. Many skiers also take the train up to the impressive Kleine Scheidegg area for further challenges and variety.
