Lying at the heart of the picturesque Bernese Oberland, the quaint old resort of Kandersteg is an attractive village in of the traditional Swiss character. Its reputation as a smaller, friendly and welcoming place is well-deserved. Offering a good selection of blue through to red runs, the resort is ideal for beginners and intermediates. There are challenges and variety here aplenty, without those terrifying slopes that kill-off confidence with one nasty fall.
The instructors come from an efficient and hard-working ski school, and those preferring skiing on the flat have 176 kms of cross-country trails to discover. Non-skiers are not forgotten with a rugged choice of ice-skating, husky sledging or tobogganing. For apres-ski, the resort is relaxed and informal with enough lively cafes, quality restaurants and entertaining bars to amuse everyone.
