Interlaken is set between the sparkling waters of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, and enjoys a magnificent setting on the banks of the River Aare with the snow-capped peaks of the Jungfrau, Mönch, and Eiger forming the perfect backdrop. The main promenade, the ‘Höheweg’, is lined with ?owers and fronted by a huge open meadow from where you can enjoy one of the most famous views in the world. Along the Höheweg are many attractive shops, boutiques & tea-rooms. The beautiful lakes of Thun and Brienz have several lake-side beaches, whilst the steamers call regularly to offer leisurely trips to the other lovely villages along the shores, such as Merligen. In July and August there are romantic evening cruises with music and dancing, and special open-air performances of Schiller’s William Tell, with horses, cows and goats among the cast! Any number of excursions are available from this resort, whilst top of everyone’s list should be a trip on the Jungfrau Railway to the Jungfraujoch ‘Top of Europe’.
