Description
Venue: Fuerteventura When: Daily
The island plays host to surfers, windsurfers, kitesurfers and divers all year round; the summer months being best for wind and the winter months for waves. An almost continuous north-east trade wind added to 3000 hours of sun a year and an average temperature of 22 degrees have helped Fuerteventura develop into a mini-paradise for water-sport lovers. The island is so popular with windsurfers, in fact, that the first-ever professional windsurfing World Cup was held here.
The island offers a diverse range of conditions for surfing. Most people head to the north coastal town of Corralejo, where the popular Flag Beach has the best all-round conditions and an excellent windsurfing centre.
In the summer the south also attracts many windsurfers to Sotavento, where high-speed fanatics can satisfy all their adrenalin needs.
