The capital of the north, Porto is the second largest city in Portugal and with all its history and diversity was in 2001 nominated European City of Culture. The old town in the Ribeira area has changed very little throughout the centuries with its cobbled lanes and architectural highlights dating back from the 12th century. Its main attractions include the Church of So Francisco, famous for its rococo interior and the Torre Dos Clerigos, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding area. A world Heritage site, the waterfront is the ideal destination for visitors searching for cafes and restaurants as well as being home to a regular open-air market.
