Venue: Frágil     When: Daily; not Mon or Sun

The now infamous Frágil was the first proper nightclub to open in Bairro Alto - the old party district of town. It's largely thanks to this venue that Lisbon is now so firmly on the map as a nightlife hotspot.

Frágil was the brainchild of the astute Manuel Reis (who has now moved on to the much larger Lux Bar on the harbour front). A trip to Lisbon isn't complete without a visit to this nightspot if only to see how the place has changed. Now in the fairly capable hands of some former punters, the club gets an annual makeover.

One thing they are stuck with however is the size. One small dance floor and just one bar must cater for a hot, sweaty and eager crowd. Weigh this up against the fact that it's free and you're laughing.
