Used several times for the Portuguese Open, the Quinta do Lago is a deluxe golf course situated close to Almancil.
Designed by William Mitchell and opened in 1974, the course favours the long hitter. However, to score well the player needs to pick a particular route. It is an 18-hole, 72-par course divided into two nine-hole loops. Both are anti-clockwise, the first of these suggests a draw from the tee, whilst the second favours a fade.
Buggies, trolleys and clubs are available for hire, and lessons can also be arranged. The maximum handicaps allowed are 28 for men and 36 for women.
