Back in 1970 a Dutch theatre company converted an abandoned milk factory in the centre of Amsterdam into an innovative new music, art and performance venue - Melkweg. The name means Milky Way but also: the milk (melk) is gone (weg).
Today Melkweg is established as a top quality venue. The complex houses two concert halls, a theatre, a cinema, a media room, a recording studio, a gallery and a dance studio, all complete with state-of-the-art facilities. It is open every day, with a full programme of live concerts, cinema, clubbing, festivals and special events.
