Built on the site of an 16th century "casino" for the Venetian aristocracy, The Hotel Quattro Fontane is more a country house than a hotel. Set in its own grounds on the Lido, the cottage style building still preserves some of the original structure's features. Rooms and public areas are furnished with period pieces, paintings and antiques, and intriguing objects are dotted about to delight the eyes.

During its life as a tavern in the 19th century, noted English poet Robert Browning was one of its customers.

• Nearest train station: Station - approximately 30 minutes by boat
• Directions: By car: At the end of the bridge that leads to Venice there is a road sign which tells you "Tronchetto ferry-boat per il Lido". The ferry leaves every 50 minutes and the trip takes 35 minutes. From the railway station: The number 52 takes to the Lido very quickly (in 35 minutes); if you prefer a rather slower trip, the number 1 takes you along the fascinating Grand Canal route. From the Marco Polo Airport: By boat, in connection with the flights, takes 40 minutes.
