Description
Venue: Teatro Verdi When: Daily
One of the main centres of cultural life in a city that lives and breathes culture, the Teatro Verdi hosts ballet and theatre performances, concerts, opera and a wide range of related activities, such as seminars, lectures and workshops, for 300 days a year.
The building is rightly considered one of the most beautiful historical theatres in central Italy, but it combines this pleasing historical ambience with cutting-edge, state-of-the-art equipment and attitudes. It was inaugurated in 1867, and since 1979 its activities have been organised and run by the Pisan Theatre Association, a conglomerate of various government agencies.
The theatre was was the subject of a series of renovations and refurbishments in the late 1980s, and it now boasts 900 seats, divided between five tiers and the orchestra. It has strong connections to a resident artistic group, l'Ensemble, which collaborates on projects while also pursuing its own interests.
The building's technical and professional resources are also at the disposal of the community, and it organises and hosts events for a number of citizens' associations, student groups, universities and other entities.
