Venue: Beaches When: Daily
The beaches that surround Lampedusa are the island's main attraction. The 26km coastline offers numerous choices: in the northern part of the island the beaches are steep and rocky with bays and creeks only reachable by boat. In the south however, they are covered with the only white sand in the Sicilian islands.
The sandy beaches include Cala Francese, Cala Guitgia, Cala Madonna, Cala Croce and the famous Conigli Bay, where turtles lay eggs. These are the most pleasant and also the most crowded because they offer shelter from the frequent winds.
If the crowded beaches make you uncomfortable and you're after deserted sands, look no more. Lampedusa is full of small, lesser-known beaches that can be reached either by boat or car. These include Cala Pisana and Cala Uccello (east of Lampedusa), Cala Maluk (south-east of the town), and Cala Greca and Cala Galera, which are both located south-west of Lampedusa port.
