This club surpasses all others with the grandest of settings. Forte Prenestino is a 19th-century fortress complete with moat and a warren of underground tunnels leading to the central area or 'Cathedral'.

DJs fill the cavernous rooms with techno, drum & bass and other grooves. But this is not just another nightclub. Rather, it's a self-funding arts collective housing the wierd and wonderful in the worlds of theatre, the arts and music.

Within the fortress - off the well-trodden tourist track - there are tattoo and piercing parlours, exhibition spaces, cinema screens, places to eat and drink. An arts festival is held here in the spring and, when the weather is fine, concerts are performed in the courtyards.
