We travelled to Rome on May 15th to stay at Hotel Farnesina, which claimed to be a short walking distance from some of the attractions and a stone's throw away from the bus and tram station. After checking into our room, which was ver well equipped and with a nice balcony we asked reception for directions into the city centre. We were given a map which the receptionist said we weren't on and then told it was short five minute walk to the nearest bus. After a good 45 minute walk - without going wrong due to an excellent navigator boyfriend, we stumbled across the bus station and tram. Not five minutes!In the end we caught a cab and realised that we were a good way out of where all the historic sights were. So we soon realised that we would be getting cabs everywhere. This was fine if you have the money to do it. A taxi from the hotel into town cost us 10 euros. Not bad really. It helped that we met another couple and so we were able to split the cost, but it is wrong of the hotel to specify how close there are to everything when they are not. Around the corner to them is about an hour in English!Overall the hotel was clean, breakfast was minimal with just a few crossiants, juice and tea and coffee. The one thing which does let the hotel down is promoting they have a sun terrace - they forgot to mention that they have no chairs to sit out on! So if you come back wishing to relax in the hotel before going out again on an evening, Hotel Farnesina is not for you.

The hotel was in a pleasant location near enough to main bus routes etc. My main criticism is the size of the room - very small and nowhere to hang clothes really. Other than that it was great value for money.

Afetr entering the rather disappointing foyer I was pleasantly surprised to find that the rooms were really nice. The staff were all very nice and helpful and spoke English. The only real moan would be that this was further from the action than I would have liked. We did walk into town one day but I wouldnt want to do it at night or on a really hot day. What we saved by staying out of town we ended up spending on taxis.
