With a history going back to 1829, Athens' Numismatic Museum is one of the few of its kind in the world and the only such museum in the Balkans. The strength of its collection lies in some 600,000 coins covering the ancient Greek world, the Roman and Byzantine periods, Western medieval times and modern times, as well as weights, lead stamps, medals and precious stones.
