Stuttgart's Haus der Geschichte Baden Württemberg explores the social, political and cultural history of the south-west German county with the help of modern technology.
Opened in December 2002, the museum has been a great success. The multimedia exhibition explains political continuities, social structures and historical perspectives in 200 years of German history. Over a million written documents and photographs, 40,000 objects, 120 films and 25,000 books in the library tell of Baden Württemberg's history and its predecessors Baden, Württemberg and Hohenzollern.
The post-modern building was designed by British architect James Stirling.
