A great favourite with tourists, this five-kilometre boulevard stretches along Nice's coast and is a great place to walk, rollerblade or just sit and watch people go by.
The esplanade was named la Promenade des Anglais to pay respect to the wealthy English tourists who spent the winters in Nice and whose money largely contributed to funding the boulevard. The Promenade leads on to Nice's pebble beaches and is very busy during the summer with tourists and traders trying to sell you sunglasses. Highlights include the very smart Negresco Hotel and beautiful appartment blocks.
