The Institut Lumière in Lyon is a museum devoted to one of the most influential families in history - the Lumières, the inventors of cinema.
The museum traces the family back to Antoine Lumière, the father of Louis and Auguste, an artist who no doubt fired his sons' imagination. Entitled Au Pays des Lumières (In the land of the Lumières), the exhibition attempts to transport visitors to the Lumière home and teach them all about the the huge debt we owe the family.
It also pays tribute to the forerunners of the Lumière brothers, and examines the family's forays into photography, three-dimensional cinema and medicine.
