Saint-Ouen/Clignancourt Flea Market
Porte de Clignancourt, 75018 Paris, France

Description
Venue: Porte de Clignancourt When: Daily; Mon, Sat, and Sun only
One of the world's finest flea markets, the Saint-Ouen "Puces" have a layout to rival the most tangled Oriental souk. Every weekend, the area around the Porte de Clignancourt becomes a throng of activity, selling everything from full-scale wooden fairground horses to vintage Pierre Cardin socks.
In theory, the "Puces" are split into ten different markets, each devoted to particular goods - if you want a retro denim jacket, head for the Malik Market, or to Biron Market for a somewhat classier item of furniture. In practice, despite signposts, the Puces virgin tends to get irrevocably lost in the rows of stalls.
Not that this is a bad thing, however; provided you are willing to spare a day to the adventure, you should discover some treasures you never thought you'd need in a million years. On the other hand, if you've set your heart on vintage Chanel or Art Deco, get there as early as you can.
A word of warning: you may think you can win money gambling on some of the roadside card-games. You won't. They are all rigged and highly illegal, and make a speciality of fleecing tourists. But don't let that put you off your shopping in what is reputedly the largest flea market in Europe. The 2000 stands and ten miles of walkways await you...
