The picturesque region of Aquitaine is located in the Dordogne, in south west France. Around a thousand small towns and settlements were founded by the English here during the 14th century - giving the region a rich history and fell of it's own. Today the area is again popular with English, holiday makers and increasingly the booming ex-pat property market.

  • Calle Ocho Bar
The Latino craze sweeping France has led to funky Cuban bar Calle Ocho becoming Bordeaux's number one drinking hot-spot. Dimly lit, with battered leather sofas, mosaic walls, red lights and posters of Che Guevara, the bar has real character and exudes kitsch charm.
  • Bordeaux Markets
Bordeaux has a whole range of markets to choose from. There's nowhere better to soak up the local atmosphere or test out the Bordelais delicacies.
  • Jardin Public
With the Museum of Natural History, Botanical Garden, boating, a children's play area and a library within its grounds, Bordeaux's central green space is much more than just a garden.
  • Musée d'Aquitaine
The Musée d'Aquitaine is one of Bordeaux's better museums. This well-organised home of historical knick-knacks is housed in the attractive 19th-century Faculty of Arts and Sciences, a short walk from the pretty Tour Pey-Berland.
  • Palais Rohan
The wealth of Bordeaux is symbolised in its grand Town Hall, known as the Palais Rohan, prominently located on the Place Pey-Berland.
