Description
Venue: Roxy When: Daily
The Roxy is a Prague institution - a huge club/concert hall with an ever-varying line-up of DJs and live music. A run-down underground venue - recovering from the severe flood of 2002 when the Vltava broke its banks - cheap drinks and a refreshing line in rough-and-ready chic regularly draw large crowds of both locals and foreigners.
The live acts playing in the week tend to be alternative rock and dance outfits, with some reasonably big names cropping up every now and then. The DJs vary wildly; the Roxy has become Prague's techno haven, although house has been making inroads. There is also a gallery upstairs and a theatre, revelling in the title teatro.xy.
Whether the door staff are still as (un)funny about letting people in after 1am remains to be seen, but, on the plus side, there's a hostel next door, so you can always have a short walk home.
The Roxy website (with extensive coverage in English as well as Czech) gives the full run-down of events, gigs and happenings, including the free Sunday gigs.
