According to legend, it was on the Paphos shoreline that Aphrodite, Goddess of love, arose from the crashing waves and the rock marking her birthplace became a place of pilgrimage for centuries. As a magnet for sightseers and beach-lovers alike, it is no mystery why this resort in west Cyprus remains so popular. It offers such a wealth of archaeological treasures that the town has been added to the UNESCO 'World Cultural Heritage List' and many of its golden beaches have been awarded blue-flag status for their high standards. The resort also has a lively nightlife scene with bars, cafs, harbourside tavernas and a couple of discos buzzing away until the early hours.
