Location

  • Nearest airport: Brussels National Airport
  • Nearest train station: Bruges - 1km
  • Directions: Route from Calais When leaving Eurotunnel, get on the A16 autoroute and follow signs to Dunkerque which will take you past Calais in the direction of Belgium (if coming from Calais be careful at the Calais interchange as it's easy to end up on the Paris road). Stay on the same motorway and signs to Bruges will soon appear. As you pass Dunkerque the speed limit is reduced as the motorway forms part of the suburban road system. The motorway becomes the A18 in Belgium. Near Ostend the motorway becomes the A10. Eventually you will see a large brown tourist sign: Brugge, and about 1500 metres after, exit at junction 7. It is signposted LOPPEM. The slip road leads down to an island where you need to turn left (third exit). This takes you under the autoroute onto a long straight road, the N397, Koning Albertlaan, and Bruges is in front of you. Continue to some traffic lights and go straight on (ignore signs telling you that Bruges is to the left). On a good day you will be able to see the spire of St Salvator's Cathedral, illuminated at night, directly in front. There are a further two small islands as you approach Bruges and eventually you reach the rear of the railway station and more traffic lights. Stay in the main traffic lane and you will go under the railway bridge. After the railway bridge you approach an island where you turn left (effectively the second exit). You are confronted by three lanes. On your RHS you may see the new ugly concert hall in terracotta coloured tiles. Take the left hand lane which takes you under a tunnel under the Zand Square. On exit from the tunnel you will see Golden Tree Hotel on your left. Continue to the next traffic lights and do a U turn to approach the hotel. If you get lost, give us a bell and we'll come and get you.
