Curaao, one of the Dutch Caribbean islands, can be found in the Southwest Caribbean, just 44 miles from South America and just 12 degrees from the equator. It has a warm, sunny climate year round as its lucky enough to be outside the hurricane belt. Although its widely known for the blue liquor (popular in cocktails!) the island has a wonderful and diverse taste in music with African, Latin American, Caribbean and European cultures blending together to create unique styles and the people are incredibly linguisticmost speaking Spanish, Dutch, English and their local dialect which is a mixture of the three; Papiamentu. Food on the island also comes from many influences and youll find a good variety to choose from. The style of houses and buildings are mainly 17th & 18th century Dutch Colonial architecture and the island is a pretty palette of Caribbean colours; so much so that youll struggle to find a white building there! The island has thirty public and private beaches, ranging from intimate rocky coves to long stretches of white sandy beach, almost all of the swimming beaches are scattered along the sheltered south coast, where the waters are crystal clear. Its also a fabulous island for those who wish to explore underwater toogreat for diving and snorkelling.
