Description

Venue: Naharagarh Fort    When: Daily

The Nahargarh Fort (or Tiger Fort) was built by Sawai Raja Jai Singh in 1734 and was strategically important as a defence of Amer. New additions were made in the 19th century by Sawai Ram Singh II and Sawai Madho Singh II.

According to legend, the fort was named after a prince whose spirit used to haunt the site and would cause mischief so as to delay the building's construction. Finally, after a Tantric prayer his spirit agreed to leave on condition that the fort should be named after him.

The fort is a popular destnation for picnickers and one of the highlights of a visit here is the view of the Man Sagar lake and the surrounding area.
