Description

Venue: Old City    When: Daily

The walled old city of Jaipur is enclosed within seven gates, the most important of which are Chandpol, Jaipuri and Sanganeri. It houses all the famous sights of the "Pink City", as well as Jaipur's bazaars.

The great warrior King Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II established Jaipur in the 1720s with an impressive plan. The broad, open lanes and rectangular road intersections are evident in the Johari Bazaar. Other markets of note include the Bapu Bazaar, Tripolia and Chandpol Bazaar.

Other sights in the Old City include The City Palace complex, the Jantar Mantar, one of the five observatories built by Sawai Jai Singh, and the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds).
