Description

Venue: Jade Buddha Temple    When: Daily

The large jade Buddha inside this Shanghai temple, also called Yufu Si, is one of Shanghai's major tourist attractions.

Built in 1918, this ornate temple houses two fine Buddhas, the most famous of the two being a 1.9-metre Buddha carved out of pale jade. This statue is housed in one of the temple's four halls, aptly named the Jade Buddha Hall. In the Reclining Buddha Hall lies the recumbent second statue. The temple's monks perform various ceremonies throughout the day.
