Description

Venue: Lan Kwai Fong    When: Daily

Lan Kwai Fong is one of Hong Kong's hippest areas, home to an abundance of bars and restaurants catering for all tastes and budgets. Here's where you'll find some of the best quality food and get to hang out in the most fashionable places. The best time to visit is Friday or Saturday night, when crowds spill out onto the street and create a good-natured party atmosphere.

In colonial times, Lan Kwai Fong (translated as Orchid Square) was a flower market and an area for marriage-brokers, who believed that the presence of an underground river in the adjacent hill slopes conferred fertility upon their clients.

The area's present popularity derives from its rediscovery by a wave of young entrepreneurs, artists, gallery owners, designers and restaurateurs in the 1980s.
