Driving Directions

The airport is situated on the A45 Coventry road, close to junction 6 of the M42. There are direct connections from the M1, M5, M6 and M40. The new M6 toll road provides a fast alternative to the M6. The airport is signposted from the motorways.

Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and National are represented in the Millennium Link.

Public Transport

Rail: The free Skyrail service links the airport directly to Birmingham International Train Station. A network of regional and intercity rail services depart from there, including a Virgin service to London Euston. Further information is available from National Rail (tel: (0)845 748 4950; website: www.nationalrail.co.uk). Road: Taxi: Black cabs (tel: (0)121 782 3744) carry up to five people with luggage. Bus: Local buses link the airport to the surrounding district. All buses stop outside the terminals. For timetable and fare information, call Traveline (tel: (0)870 608 2608). Coach: National Express (tel: (0)8705 808 080; website: www.nationalexpress.com) operates long-distance coach services, linking the airport to Birmingham and a number of other cities, and provides inter-airport Flightlink (tel: (0)8705 757 747) coaches linking the airport with London Luton, London Gatwick and London Stansted airports.

The airport information desk (tel: (0)870 733 5511) is situated in the Millennium Link; there is also an information point located in the Departures Lounge. British Airways operates a customer service desks (tel: (0)121 767 7502/3) in Terminal 2. The Visitor Centre in Terminal 1 provides a reservation and information service.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: Bureaux de change and ATMs are available in both terminals. Postal facilities are available in Terminal 1. Eating and drinking: There is an extensive range of cafés, restaurants, bars and fast-food outlets both airside and landside. Shopping: There are several retail shops at the airport. Luggage: A left-luggage facility (tel: (0)121 767 7987) is available on the first floor in Terminal 1. Other facilities: There are 24-hour medical centres in both terminals and a prayer room.

Conference and Business Facilities

Business booths are available in the Terminal 1 Departures lounge; free work stations are provided, with credit-card operated telephone, e-mail, modem and fax facilities. Air Space (tel: (0)121 767 8063) provides meeting rooms accommodating between two and 40 people. Overhead projectors and flipcharts are available.

Disabled Facilities

Adapted toilets and lifts are provided. Wheelchairs are available on request. Help with baggage and check-in is available by contacting the airport information desk (tel: (0) 870 733 5511) prior to arrival. Wheelchair and other assistance after check-in must be arranged through the individual airlines. A Minicom system (tel: (0)121 767 8084) is installed at the Terminal 1 airport information desk, and there is an induction loop system.

Car Parking

Cars can be parked in the shade along the full length of the terminal buildings and shuttles are available to transport travellers to the relevant terminal. Valet parking and lock-up garages are offered by Katanga Executive Parking (tel: (0)21 934 2240), these facilities must be booked in advance.

Car Hire

Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Khava/Kulula, Imperial, National Alamo and Tempest are represented. Desks are located inside the International and Domestic Arrivals Terminals. The car hire zones are located outside, either opposite the International Terminal or next to the Domestic Arrivals Terminal.

Public Transport

Road: Taxi: Taxis are available from the airport to the city centre (journey time: 20 minutes); Touch Down Taxis is the officially authorised airport taxi company and travellers are advised to use these instead of unauthorised taxis. Bus: Door-to-door shuttle bus services are available on demand or by pre-booking in Arrivals (International and Domestic). Schedules vary according to flight arrival times; passengers can also pre-book their return trip to the airport.

Information desks are located in Arrivals in both the International and Domestic Terminals.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: Banks, bureaux de change, ATMs and a post office are available. Mobile telephone hire is available too. Internet is available in British American Tobacco Smokers Lounge. Eating and drinking: Food and drink outlets can be found throughout the airport, and include a restaurant, bar, sports café, coffee shop, juice bar, bar and grill, and sandwich shop. Shopping: Duty-free shopping, including a wine shop, is situated in International Departures (airside). Shops also include a pharmacy, clothing accessories shop, bookshop, sweet shop and gift shop. A VAT refund service is provided in International Departures. Luggage: Baggage storage facilities are available in the Domestic Arrivals and International Departures Terminals. A porter service is available; porters are self-employed and rely on tips for their income. Other facilities: There is a surgery (tel: (0)21 934 2246). Baby changing facilities can be found in all ladies’ toilets.

Conference and Business Facilities

The Zenith Airport Conference Venue (tel: (0)21 934 0012; website: www.airport-conference.co.za) is located near the Domestic Arrivals Terminal and offers venues for meetings and conferences, as well as catering. Fully equipped offices with a secretarial service, for short- and long-term hire, is also available. Executive lounges are located in Domestic and International Departures and an Airports Company VIP Lounge facility can be found next to the north side of the Domestic Departures Terminal (tel: (0)21 937 1233).

Disabled Facilities

The airport is fully accessible for disabled travellers, with lifts, ramps and disabled toilets. Wheelchairs can be supplied if required; passengers are advised to inform their airline of any special needs in advance.

The City Lodge Pinelands (tel: (0)21 685 7944) and Courtyard Suite Hotel (tel: (0)21 448 3929) are within 11km (7 miles) of the airport. Hotel reservations can be made at the airport by using automatic telephones located in Arrivals.
