A history lesson in a speedboat... If only school was this much fun. This is certainly seat of your pants stuff. From the moment the skipper (I'll come to him later) lets the two huge engines rip you know you're in for one helluva ride. This is a Jekyll and Hyde trip that takes in the best of both worlds. The first half is a white-knuckle ride along the Thames, zig-zagging in and out of traffic and catching some serious air. The second bit is a, slightly more sedate but no less enjoyable, tour. The guide/skipper, a parody of a sea captain, has some fascinating information about life on the Thames through the ages. Also, don't miss Bill Oddie's £10m mansion. The house won't take your breath away but the fact that Bill Oddie owns it will. Two very big thumbs up!! Nick Wild - Site Editor

• The Waterloo Millennium Pier is directly underneath and part of the London Eye. If you are looking at the London Eye to your right there is a ramp leading down to the pier. Above the ramp there is a sign saying 'Discover London by the River'. Follow the pier down to Boarding Gate 1
