  • Art and Architecture in Aalborg

Scandinavia is renowned the world over for its architects, and Aalborg boasts works by two of the most famous. The magnificent Utzon Center, by Danish architect Jørn Utzon – creator of the Sydney Opera House - is a living cultural centre, showing art, architecture and design by the architect himself as well as examples of national and international cultural heritage. Enjoy lovely views of the Limfjord from the café.
The Museum of Modern Art, “Kunsten”, was designed by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, and houses a permanent collection of Danish and international art from around 1900 to the present.

  • Restaurants and Nightlife

Famed for Aquavit, Aalborg is both quirky and chic with more restaurants and bars per resident than any other town in Denmark. There is something to suit everyone’s palate and pocket.
Among the many excellent restaurants are Mortens Kro, now also with a Champagne Bar; the restaurant ship Prinses Juliana and Nordens Folkekøkken to name just a few.
And after a good meal, continue to explore Aalborg by night in one of the many bars and clubs. Many of the cosy daytime cafes along Vesterå transform into nightclubs at night.
Within the newly opened Nordkraft Cultural Centre you’ll find ‘Skråen’, with live music on Friday and Saturday nights.

  • Out and about

The area around Aalborg leaves nothing to desire with stunning landscapes, wide sandy beaches, charming villages with narrow streets and exquisite small townhouses.

The Top of Denmark – North Jutland - is renowned for its long, wide sandy beaches. With 45 km of unspoiled beach you will find yourself surrendering to seaside life at the moment you get there.

Known as the Land of Light, North Jutland – and in particular the idyllic old fishing village of Skagen – has attracted artists for centuries due to the very special light in the region. Explore “Grenen”, the northernmost tip of the European continent, where you can literally experience standing with one leg in one sea and the other leg in the other.

Don’t miss the charming and lively atmosphere of the village of Løkken (the Brighton of North Jutland) where historic houses and excellent restaurants lie site by site in narrow alleys and pleasant small squares.

North Jutland is also Viking land. Both in Hobro and by Løgstør there are enormous ring castles and on Lindholm Høje north of Aalborg is a huge burial place from that period.
