What happens on the day?

There are two shark diving options available:

• Shark diving in Scotland - £189
• Shark diving in Cheshire - £239

The itinerary for the day is the same at both locations.

• Upon arrival a member of staff will greet you before attending your introduction and safety briefing
• You will then be fitted with your Scuba equipment before taking part in an in water instruction in the training pool
• As a PADI recognised Discover SCUBA session, absolute beginners will be taught basic dive techniques by our highly qualified and experienced team including how to use the breathing apparatus, how to clear your mask and hand signals
• You will then take your first steps into shark-infested waters for your 30-45 minute dive with the fully qualified PADI dive instructors. You will dive two or three at a time, accompanied at all times by your instructors
• During your dive you will encounter a number of amazing sharks and fish
  • In Cheshire these will include Sand Tiger Sharks, Lemon Sharks, Nurse Sharks, Southern Stingrays and other species of fish found in the Caribbean
  • In Scotland these will include Sand Tiger Sharks, Tope Sharks, Angel Sharks and other species including rays and crabs
  There is no cage involved so you can really get up close to some of the fish
• After your experience there will time to shower and change before collecting your certificate of attendance

Experience details

• This is a single gift experience voucher for one person
• Locations: Edinburgh in Scotland or near Ellesmere Port in Cheshire
• Availability is as follows:
  • In Scotland, the experience is available on Saturdays and Sundays, subject to availability
  • In Cheshire, the experience can be booked on selected days throughout the year subject to availability. Kindly note that weekends are very popular indeed and can be booked up around 3 months in advance
    Please note that the aquarium is closed on Christmas and New Year's Day
• Please allow approximately 90-minutes for briefing and instructions, and 30-45 minutes for the shark dive. Kindly note that there may be a delay of up to an hour and a half between your training and your dive as divers only enter the main pool 2 or 3 at a time

Essential information

• You need to bring a warm top, tracksuit bottoms and socks
• Refreshments can be purchased from the cafe area
• The first two spectators can enter free of charge, any additional spectators will be charged for entry into the aquarium at a special discounted rate. You must advise your chosen location of the number of spectators you will be bringing in advance. Spectators can tour the aquarium when divers are attending their training and once this is complete they will have the unique opportunity to view divers in the water through the amazing aquatunnel
• Disabled access is available
• Public Liability Insurance is included, along with Personal Accident Insurance of up to £50,000 and Cancellation Insurance of up to £500, for the voucher holder. Details will be enclosed within your gift pack
• You will be given full instructions and diving gear will be provided
• You will receive a full information pack and an open-dated voucher valid for nine months from the date of issue
• You must book and take your experience before the voucher expiry date
• To arrange a date for your experience simply phone the number provided in the pack
• Unless otherwise stated, it is recommended that you book a date at least four weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available before the expiry date listed on the voucher. This is only a guideline and we advise that you book as early as possible to avoid disappointment. All bookings are subject to availability

Restrictions

• Minimum age is 16 years
• Minimum height is five feet
• Maximum height is six feet and four inches
• Maximum chest size is 48 inches
• Maximum weight is 18 stone
• This experience is not suitable for pregnant women
• If you have any of the following medical conditions listed below, you will be unable to dive until the dive instructor receives a written authorisation from a doctor:
  • Ear infection/disease, hearing loss or problems with balance
  • History of ear or sinus surgery
  • Suffering from a cold, congestion, sinusitis or bronchitis
  • History of respiratory problems, severe attack of hay fever or allergies, or lung disease
  • History of chest surgery or a collapsed lung (pneumothorax)
  • History of emphysema, tuberculosis or active asthma
  • Currently taking medication carrying a warning about any impairment of physical or mental abilities
  • Behavioural health, mental or psychological problems, or a nervous system disorder
  • History of colostomy
  • History of heart disease or heart attack, heart surgery or blood vessel surgery
  • History of high blood pressure, angina or take medication to control blood pressure
  • 45 year olds plus who have a family history of heart attack or stroke
  • History of diabetes
  • History of seizures, blackouts or fainting, convulsions or epilepsy or take medications to prevent them
  • History of back, arm or leg problems following an injury, fracture or surgery
  • History of fear of closed or open spaces or panic attack (claustrophobia or agoraphobia)
  • History of bleeding or other blood disorders
• Please note that a declaration of fitness form must also be completed on the day of the dive
