Have you ever watched those survival programmes on TV and wondered, "How do they do that?" (or even "I can do that!"). Well now's you chance to find out (or prove yourself). On this fundamental survival and bush craft course the emphasis on hands-on learning. So you'll learn how to make fire, build a shelter, find and prepare meals in the bush and natural navigation, amongst other essential skills. You'll come back from your weekend away with much greater knowledge to survive in the wilderness.

What happens on the day?
These courses are fully hands on, practical courses conducted entirely in the wilderness
Meets at 19.00 on Friday and proceed to your camp and shelters for the first night
See how to light the fire and prepare your evening meal of trout, rabbit or pigeon
On Saturday:
Make your own Damper bread
Learn about traps and snares and set your own snare
Build your own shelter entirely from natural materials in the woods
Learn how to light fire by friction, more importantly you will get the chance to do it yourself
A guided tour of the woods to see dozens of edible plants, you can try them yourself
Spend time on game preparation, water preparation, backwoodsmans candles and natural navigation
Saturday night - sleep in the shelter you build
Sunday - learn about navigation, natural cordage and knife/axe sharpening
The last event is the Woodland Sauna. This is probably the highlight of the course and a truly memorable experience...
Experience details
This is a single gift experience voucher for one person
Location: Devon or Staffordshire
Courses run on selected weekends throughout the year, all bookings are subject to availability
You are requested to arrive on Friday evening at 19.00 and expect to depart 12.00 noon on Sunday
You will receive a full information pack and an open-dated gift voucher valid for nine months from the supplier by post. You must book and take your experience before the voucher expiry date

To book a date for the experience, simply follow the booking instructions detailed in the information pack or on the gift voucher
It is recommended that you book a date at least six to eight weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available before the expiry date listed on the voucher. This is only a guideline and it is advised that you book as early as possible to avoid disappointment. Due to the popularity of this experiences dates can get booked up as far as four to five months in advance. All bookings are subject to availability
Essential information
You need to bring your voucher
Some items of kit will be provided for you by the centre, but it is recommended that you take the following items with you:
Plenty of warm clothing - wearing several thin layers is better than a few thick layers. A waterproof jacket and several sweatshirts underneath are sufficient. Jeans should not be worn as they are slow to dry, clinging and cold. Natural colours or camouflage will give you a better chance of spotting wildlife. Walking boots are ideal, but wellies in wet weather and trainers in dry weather will suffice
Gloves, hats, etc if in cold weather
Sleeping bag and insulated sleeping mat
Knife, fork, spoon, mug, bowl and plate
Water bottle (one litre mineral bottle will do)
Torch with fresh batteries and two spare sets
Wash kit and towel, personal toiletries and medication
Small first aid kit (plasters, bandages, headache pills etc)
Antibacterial wipes/soap
Spare change of clothing
Sorry, spectators are not permitted
The weather should not be cause for cancellation of this activity. However, in the unlikely event of cancellation, a further date will be offered to you
Unfortunately, there is no wheelchair access on this course
Public Liability Insurance is included, along with Personal Accident Insurance of up to £50,000 and Cancellation Insurance of up to £500, for the voucher holder. Details will be enclosed within your gift pack

Minimum age: 12 years old (kindly note that under 18's must be accompanied by a full paying adult).
You are advised to inform the staff of any condition that may affect your ability to participate in some activities - asthma, allergies, strains or physical impairments. The partially sighted, hard of hearing and those who do not require a wheelchair can be catered
