Where's hot in May?

May marks the end of spring, which means UK residents will have two Bank Holidays to play with. If you don't fancy relying on the Great British weather, opt for a week away or a sunshine break over a long-weekend and put your extra day off work to good use.
You won't have to travel far to find warm temperatures and sunshine. Greece, Turkey, Cyprus and Spain all comfortably hit the twenties this month, and you'll also find some sun in Central America. May is also a really good time to visit places like Dubai and Oman before the sweltering summer heat really kicks in. Find out more recommendations below.

Visit Nicosia and the newly restored Omeriye Hamam Turkish bath, you won't get a steam anywhere more ornate. If you like some history with your holiday you're in luck. Paphos has so many ancient treasures like fortresses, theatres and mosaics, the whole city is heritage listed.

This coastal town in Portugal's Algarve region has two distinct sides. In the daytime it's all sandy beaches, coastal walks and golf courses. But in the evening the Old Town comes to life - there's an independent outdoor market, and seafood restaurants by Fisherman's Beach (make sure you try the sardines). Then it's party time. A cab over to the New Town's "Strip", will drop you in a street of bars and clubs, where you can drink and dance into the small hours.

If you want to avoid the intense heat of the stifling summer months (you do) then visit Dubai in May. Opt for a floodlit game of golf, or head out on a hair-raising desert safari, where you can race over sand dunes. Elsewhere, The Mall of the Emirates has an indoor ski slope to cool down on, and don't miss the annual Al Gaffal Traditional 60ft Dhow (boat) race. Seeing over 100 white sails gliding around is quite a sight.
