Do make sure to try some Swiss cheese while you’re here, head to Chäs Vreneli AG (Münsterhof 7 8001) for a mouth-watering variety. Gruyère is perfect for a fondue and Emmental is a typical Swiss cheese, perfect as a souvenir of your trip.

The Old Town

Close to many cheap hotels in Zurich, a stroll around the Old Town gives you an insight into the city’s rich history, with its delightful features such as cobblestones and fountains.

The Grossmünster (Great Minster) is an iconic building in the town and it’s rumoured that Charlemagne built the towers here, close to the graves of local saints, Felix and Regula.

Other buildings of interest are the Peterskirche (Peter's Church), which has the largest clockface in Europe, and the Fraumünster (Minster of Our Lady), with its beautiful stained glass windows.


The old cinema in the Plaza building in Langstrasse has been restored and is now a club with two dancefloors that play a variety of music. From disco, to house, and R&B music, the club’s sounds attract a variety of customers and it’s a great place to end a night on the town before heading back to your Zurich hotel.

Another club with its fair share of history is The Mascotte. Built in 1900, it has welcomed famous people such asLouis Armstrong and Sammy Davis Junior during the big band craze. The club now plays a mixture of alternative music to a party crowd.
