Paintings and Posters

Kunsthaus is a must-see museum dedicated to fine art, with hundreds of paintings and sculptures, including works by Edvard Munch, Jacques Lipchitz, and Alberto Giacometti.

The Museum of Design celebrates art of a different kind, with a focus on industrial design and visual communication. Do see the Poster Collection, with its fantastic archive of 330,000 posters that capture the history of the form from the mid-1800s to the present.

Mountains and Lakes

Zurich is particularly renowned for its beautiful scenery, which can be admired from the nearby Uetliberg Mountain. A short train ride away, the Uetliberg offers a stunning view over the city and lake. It’s also a perfect place for hiking and mountain biking on the provided trail.

The tranquil Lake Zurich is ideal for a cruise, or hire a boat on the River Limmat for a more winding journey.

Swiss Cuisine

Zurich excels in fine cuisine, with a fantastic range of restaurants to tempt you. Opened in 1860, the Restaurant Lindenhofkeller has over 600 wines and a delicious menu made with fresh, local ingredients. From its location above the River Limmat, you can appreciate a breath-taking view while you dine.

Do make sure to try some Swiss cheese while you’re here, head to Chäs Vreneli AG (Münsterhof 7 8001) for a mouth-watering variety. Gruyère is perfect for a fondue and Emmental is a typical Swiss cheese, perfect as a souvenir of your trip.

The Old Town

Close to many cheap hotels in Zurich, a stroll around the Old Town gives you an insight into the city’s rich history, with its delightful features such as cobblestones and fountains.

The Grossmünster (Great Minster) is an iconic building in the town and it’s rumoured that Charlemagne built the towers here, close to the graves of local saints, Felix and Regula.

Other buildings of interest are the Peterskirche (Peter's Church), which has the largest clockface in Europe, and the Fraumünster (Minster of Our Lady), with its beautiful stained glass windows.

Nightlife

The old cinema in the Plaza building in Langstrasse has been restored and is now a club with two dancefloors that play a variety of music. From disco, to house, and R&B music, the club’s sounds attract a variety of customers and it’s a great place to end a night on the town before heading back to your Zurich hotel.

Another club with its fair share of history is The Mascotte. Built in 1900, it has welcomed famous people such as Louis Armstrong and Sammy Davis Junior during the big band craze. The club now plays a mixture of alternative music to a party crowd.
