"Good location"

My sisters and I stayed at this hotel seven years ago and as it is so central decided to stay here again. The rooms have been refurbished and the bathrooms are lovely, however the rooms facing the front are only single glazed and very noisy at night, one of my sisters had a room on the sixth floor which was not very nice as it was too hot with only a small window with a horrible view. If you are staying more than one night do not have the hotel's £16 vouchers for dinner as the menu did not change at all when we were there and there were only four choices for each course, there are numerous restuarants and pubs in the area where you can eat for less than £16, similarly dont have their expensive and not very good breakfast, lots of places around open at 9am and serve breakfast for less than the hotel's price. The staff are courteous but we had terrible problems sorting out our bills when we checked out, they must have a very basic computer system.

My husband and I booked into here for a couple of nights, although the room was a little non the small side it was clean and tidy. The breakfast was good. Tip for the staff, clear and set the table before allocating so much easier

"Absolute disgrace!!!"

It was a truly horrible hotel, and to top it off after putting my towels in my bath to be changed following cutting myself shaving, the same 'Bloody' towel was on the towel rack that evening. (I really hope it was my blood anyway). The staff were rude when I complained. They make you wait in line to retrieve your keys behind the slowest and most understaffed check in process you can imagine as they don't trust you with a key! Only positive is the location is decent but if you don't get a front facing room you'll have an awful view.

"Great location and nice room"

Stayed here for one night for business and this is literally a 2min walk from the train station and right in the heart if the town, you have views of the castle which s great. Hotel staff were polite, room was homely, bathroom nice and most importantly the place was very clean. If I come back to Edinburgh I will Defo book here again.

"Nice place to stay in Edinburgh."

The entrance to the Old Waverly Hotel can be easily missed! The hotel sits atop of several department stores on Princes Street and has a small entrance (be warned! Large bags will need shuffling to get through) with a small walkup to the small reception desk and area. Once beyond that, there is a very small elevator available to use which makes things much smoother. The floor layouts were a bit confusing at first but you learn it quickly. The reception staff was helpful and friendly, but a bit slow overall. The location of the hotel was excellent. It is located almost directly across from Princes Mall, which itself is attached to the Waverly station. Thus, the train station was pretty much across the street. The hotel is located on the new side of town and is a quick 'round the corner walk to lovely Rose Street (and the shops and restaurants there). From my understanding, there may be cafes opening on Princes Street as of 2014 which may slow down the already busy pedestrian traffic in the area. The room we had was rather nice, with high ceilings, and overlooked Princes Street (and the Scott Monument). It was large, bright, and comfortable. As we were on the second floor and overlooking a busy street, I was surprised that the amount of noise that trickled through was not terrible (mostly bus noise...but there are a lot of buses that pass through Princes Street) but definitely noticeable! The room itself was very nice and had character, which we enjoyed. We did not make use of the lounge, restaurant, or other amenities. However, I do recall seeing a great offer advertised for food and drink before 7p daily at the front desk. All in all, this was a good place to stay in Edinburgh. High points: 1. Great location, across from Princes Mall/Waverly station in new town, and right around the corner from Rose Street. 2. Large, bright, comfortable room with high ceilings. 3. Lovely views from the room itself. Low points: 1. Traffic noise was noticeable. 2. Narrow entranceway makes it a bit tricky to negotiate large luggage.
