"a few blips but overall very good"
Stayed recently with my boyfriend for a weekend getaway. The hotel is right in the middle of all the action in Central but has quite a boutique feel. Very quiet - hardly saw anyone at all. Rooms are a decent size for a city hotel, and nicely spaced out with a great bathroom. Bathroom toiletries are Apivita, which are gorgeous - these are changing I believe to Sodashi in about a month or so. Everything very clean, service staff unobtrusive.
When we arrived we were shown to our room and checked in within the room, which was a nice touch. Breakfast is one of 2 options - either the MO bar or at Amber. MO bar offers a buffet breakfast but the spread is a little small. Be careful - if you decide you want your eggs any other way than scrambled they charge you an egg "supplement". Very weird for a 5-star hotel but you can get it removed easily enough. Amber offers a set menu for breakfast (3 course) or you can pick a la carte. I think Amber is a better option since the food is prepared a la minute. I was not overly impressed with the food at MO.
If you are staying here, then ask the hotel to book you a table at Amber for dinner. The food is superb, and while you definitely pay for it (we spent roughly US$600 on a meal for 2 with wine, the execution, service and taste is delicious. You can choose to order a la carte for dinner or the degustation menu. The prices work out to be similar, and even when ordering a la carte we received canapes, amuse bouches and palate cleansers. We would definitely return for the restaurant.
The spa is lovely, and a great space, with separate men/women areas that include saunas, whirlpools, relaxation rooms and the like. Really very good. The massage I had was llovely, but of course you do pay quite a bit for this.
The location is very convenient - right in the heart of central, and a short stroll to LKF, all the shopping areas and the tram to the Peak. it's also a very easy walk from the airport express at HK station (10min walk, all undercover, with plenty of signs so you can't really get lost).
For this price and for a splurge, I would likely choose somewhere else in the city next time, but this is a great base and you can't beat the location.
"Faultless"
The hotel was excellant as usual, I had a deluxe room with a round bath which was great to relax in adter a long day travelling. The room was perfect and there is nothing that needs improving. The location was ideal for me. I ate in the Amber restaurant and had a magnificent meal.
"The best hotel in the best location in all of Hong Kong"
The location is second to none, right in the heart of Central. The rooms are spotless, tasteful, comfortable and well designed. Every aspect of the overall proposition is first class from the wonderful Mo Bar to the Concierge. Anyone who runs a bar should visit the Mo Bar to see how it should be done. Customer experience is at the heart of the entire proposition from check in to check out. All staff without exception offer first class service without being obtrusive. They really have the blueprint for the perfect hotel. I've stayed before with my husband and this time with our infant daughter and it could not have been better. Having experienced a number of HK hotels the Landmark Mandarin stands head and shoulders above them all. Will definitely be back.
"The best hotel I've stayed at"
I used to work at a five star hotel, so I know all internal hotel books describing luxury services very well. An the Landmark Mandarin Oriental not even maintains these standards, but even exceedes them. This is a new hotel, nicely furnished, really very good cleaned (!). Qualitative bath amenities by Apivita (love them soo much!); two small chocolate pralines every evening at turndown service. Very good and punctual in-room dining (we've always had breakfast at our room). Excellent Amber restaurant with wine lunches on weekends (set Micheline star menu, wines accompanying it). Very pleasant and efficient staff at concierge desk and reception and bellman and all of them - really. The one minor point is -no view, the hotel is surrounded by office buildings, but as for me this is not the question at all if you get such kind of really excellent hospitality services every day of your stay there. Wifi wasn't slow, as some of travelers write, but I was checking my emails and downloading pics, not watching YouTube. Fitness Center is quite well equipped although small I ' d rather say, and opens at 6 am, which is very practical if you travel on business. Spa is great, but prices are high enough (but this is a Spa at a luxury hotel). So I highly recommend this hotel for staying on business and romantic trips in HK
"Pleasant drinks in the Amber Bar"
I had a catch-up meeting with some students at the Amber Bar, which is a small but quiet and pleasant bar on the 7th floor (I think) of the Landmark Mandarin Oriental.
We originally tried to secure a table at the MO Bar, but no tables were available. The MO Bar staff kindly suggested we try the 7th floor bar, which turned out well. I don't think the Amber Bar serves food, but the drink selection was more than ideal. The bar had tasteful decor and I didn't feel squeezed in. The Bar staff were very helpful.
