"Great value and friendly staff!!!"

I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a cheap but clean and tidy hotel not too far from the Brighton pier. We had a great stay at the hotel!! Our room was on the top floor so we got to see the sea view from our window even though we hadn't ask for a sea view room. We had big room with a ensuite and with a massive tellvision. We couldn't work out the telly but the lady who was working that day was really helpful!! For anyone driving down I would recommen you buy a permit for the day but you can't pick up your permit till 12ish due to no one being at the hotel at the night so you have to pay for a parking ticket! The hotel is also bar which I thought would be quite noisy but it was far from it. We went down for breakfast at 9am I didn't really fancy anything hot but I thought I've paid for so I might as well and I'm glad I did, I had a sausage sandwich and is was lush!! You got to help yourself to drinks, cereal and toast. We had a great time and we really loved this hotel and the staff.

"Okay hotel, overpriced at weekends. Room too warm."

This was an okay B&B. The room was a bit overpriced but overall okay. Unable to open the window or control the heating in the room meant that one went from boiling hot (especially on a morning) to cold. The door didn't seem to close properly. While locked it rattled and made you feel nervous. The staff made us welcome.

"Brilliant weekend!"

Just got home after a truly great weekend at The Iron Duke! Fantastic staff- I emailed the pub last week asking if they could order me in specially some orange wkd as I know some places don't sell it down south- it was waiting for me when we arrived- pretty good service if you ask me! We work in hospitality ourselves but could find nothing at all to have a moan about:) not that we wanted too but sometimes it's justified! the pub is cosy, warm and friendly, our room was huge, nicely decorated-really good shower in the en-suite and an amazingly comfy bed (ordering a mattress topper tomorrow!) we didn't eat at the pub as we wanted to explore Brighton, but it looked delicious what we saw it seemed very busy with food. Breakfast was all good, plenty of juices/ cereals and a hearty full english (decent veggie sausage for a change) very quick service also. We had a party to attend in the theatre room in the pub on our last night and we were totally impressed how patiently the staff attended some very drunk patrons late at night and didn't appear in the slightest fazed or irritated or tired-not easy from experience:) we'll most certainly be back, thanks all the staff, we have a great time:)

"Best place to stay on a budget in Hove/Brighton"

Stayed at The Iron Duke on Saturday in a very cold and snowy Brighton, my room however could not have been toastier or more comfy! Really friendly bar, lush thai food and close enough to everywhere to just walk, no need for cabs! Stayed in an enormous room with ensuite, freshly decorated and a sea view to boot! The Iron Duke has a lovely team of staff who can't do enough to make you feel welcome, in a very nice relaxed informal way. The best place in Brighton/Hove to stay for the money they charge, will definitely be back, can't recommend it enough.

"Not a pleasant place to stay"

So for New Year's Eve my partner and I decided we would go to Brighton and booked the Iron Duke through Last Minute.com. The most recent reviews on Trip Advisor were extremely positive and the photos on The Iron Duke's website looked appealing. However, this was not the case. Upon arrival (11am) we expected to go into the hotel and see what it was like. We were aware that check in was not till 2pm but wanted to see where we staying. We could not do this as the whole place was shut, locked and bolted! If trading under the name of a 'hotel' surely 24 hour access/communication should be avaliable? We continually rung the phone number and knocked on the door for twenty minutes to no response. We were so annoyed at this point that we rang last minute.com and demanded to know what was going on. They said they had spoken to the hotel and that check in was at 2pm, (which we knew already) so guessed that we would have to go back then. Funny how the hotel would answer to last minute. com and not us! You see, What i don't understand is, if they had guests staying from the previous night-why was the hotel shut and no manned phoneline?! It was new years eve and they obviously were expecting a busy night. We tried to cancel our booking and get a refund to stay somewhere else but lastminute.com said the manager told us no because we did not give 48 hours notice. How could we give 48 hours notice if we only made the booking 12 hours before?! We eventually came back at 2pm (beware there is no parking whatsoever for the hotel + all the surrounding streets are permit only or 2 hours max stay- so if you are travelling to brighton by car there is no point staying here at all as you will have to fork out £20+ for parking on the seafront). Met a woman who showed us to our room. There are no lifts in the place so its not suitable at all for those with disabilities. The room was cleanish but nothing like any of the photos on their website. We shared one toilet between a whole floor. The windows are not double glazing and had a massive crack in it! To be fair, I will say one positive thing, the evening bar staff were friendly and the thai food they were offering to eat in the pub did look good. However, as the pub decided they were open till 3am on NYE ( which we were 100% not told about or made aware of) they had a load of locals and youths in the pub when we returned just after midnight. We saw youths were producing cans of beer from their rucksacks and it was all very noisy which we could hear from our room. I had a more pleasant stay in a hostel in Paris! Would not recommend this place to anyone.
