"Nice of Hotel"

Loved the hotel. They are just finishing renovations and it is beautiful. Very close to St Peter's Square. They offer free breakfast which was very good. A wide selection of breakfast foods to choose from.

"Excellent, modern, clean,almost luxurious"

We had a renovated room and had no issues with noise from construction. We heard it a bit in the day but not at all at night. Room was very clean, fresh, luxurious blankets and pillows, wonderful water pressure in the shower head. ( we had a tub/ shower combo). Thick towels. Breakfast was very good, nice variety. Bright, large eating room. Room Windows open for fresh air at night. Wifi in lobby was reliable. Staff was very helpful. Comparable to a nice hotel in the US. Great start our trip!

Cost: Two night stay $510 US dollars which included breakfast. Check-In: Upon arrival we were greeted by hotel staff and began check in process. I booked the City Special through the hotel’s web site and inadvertently selected 1 room for 2 nights for 1 person, which was my error since my wife was with me. I should have selected 2 people. Eduardo at the front desk insulted my intelligence and scolded me for selecting 1 person and ended up charging me and extra 15 Euros per night for the second person. The worst part was that this was in front of other customers. When I returned home I check the difference in price for the City Special for 1 versus 2 people and it is only about 8 Euros. Sleep Quality: Poor. The pillows flatten out even when two are stacked so it’s like trying to sleep with 2 or 3 inches of material. Take a neck brace to avoid getting a stiff neck. Location: Excellent location relative to Vatican City and St. Peter’s Square it’s only a few minutes walking time away. However the hotel is located on a very busy street and there is a lot of noise from traffic below. The view from room 108 is not the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica, it’s actually a row of garbage dumpster that are emptied around 2 am on Tuesday morning. If you are a light sleeper beware. Rooms: Décor in room was nice as well as the new bathroom. The floor are laminate and the bottom of my white socks turned black after walking around in the room on the first day. Consider wearing shoes if you wear white socks. Air conditioning is not controlled in the room and is on a central control for the entire hotel. The room was very hot so my wife called the front desk and was told to open the windows. We did, but remember that 2 am garbage truck drops 1,500 pound trash containers right outside the window on Tuesday mornings. Star Hotels should consider investing in ceiling fans which would provide a means to cool rooms and make it comfortable for their customers. In the U.S.A. even cheap hotels have wash clothes. So if you want to have this amenity take your own along for the trip. Service: Restaurant staff were polite and helpful. Bellman very friendly. Front Desk, judge for yourself. If want directions you need to ask specific questions like, show me where we are on this map. Where is the Coliseum? Can I get there by bus or train? What is the bus number to and from? Hopefully you get the point that you get what you ask for. Being a cheap American my philosophy is: if I can ride the Metro system for a few dollars why pay a taxi driver $50 for the same trip. Ice machine, no way. A 4 star hotel with no ice machine, come on. My wife twisted her ankle on the first day so I asked for some ice and was giving 2 small plastic cups and told the hotel only had a small ice machine. Star Hotels, invest in an ice machine that is available to all customers. Value: Not worth $255 a night. Try it and make your own call. No ice, wash clothes, my expectations may be excessive. Cleanliness: Floors in the room was very dirty. Bathroom was cleaned each day. Bed was made daily. Check Out: Went smoothly around 6 am since we had an early flight home to the US. I asked the front desk if we could get something to eat since it was included in the cost and was told that breakfast didn’t start until 6:30 am which was the same time our shuttle was to arrive. I explained that my wife and I are both diabetics and we were graciously given a banana around 6:15 am. Gracias Star Hotels.

"Very disappointed"

Our previous travels to we had stayed at the Starhotel Metropole and have always had a very comfortable stay. This year we wanted to be closer to the Vatican and we were. The disappointment came when we inquired at the front desk about the air conditioner, it was very hot in the room and you can not control the thermostat. We explained that it was too hot and the front desk without checking the room said it was 20C which it definitely wasn't. We tried to sleep with the door to the balcony open but we were concerned that it wouldn't be too safe given that we were on the first floor plus the traffic on the street was extremely noisy. Also, the street of the hotel has a high volume of tour buses dropping off passages. My advice is to stay at the Metropole and use the metro system to get around I know we will.

"Great rooms & good breakfast"

5.0/5

Sun 28 Apr 2013 Manchester, United Kingdom

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights in April 2013. The hotel is being renovated and works are ongoing, but as we were out all day/night this was not an issue. We requested a renovated room in advance and was allocated a great room with a very modern bathroom. The breakfast options had everything you would want; cereals, hot foods, fruit, meats, breads, pastries etc. The staff were friendly and provided the usual maps/leaflets on arrival. The location is ideal for St Peters/Vatican but there are not many places nearby which are open for eating/drinking in the evening (after all the crowds have left the area). We went into the centre every night and got a taxi back to the hotel which costs around 10 - 15 euros. Its well worth it after spending all day walking around as Piazzo Navona/Spanish Steps area is a good 30-45 minute walk away from hotel. The nearest metro station is a good 30 minute walk away so bear in mind when organising transfers. We looked into getting the train into Rome, but ended up booking private transfers for 80 euros return which saved us considerable time (we were at the hotel 40 minutes after landing) and trouble finding the hotel from the metro station! If you are there on a Wednesday or Sunday then would recommend going to the Pope's Audiences. Great atmosphere; get tickets the day before from the Swiss Guards and get there early.
