I requested a room near the top of the hotel and was given one on the eighth floor. Some do face inwards to a dark courtyard but mine overlooked the street and had a brilliant view of the city. The welcome was warm and the staff were helpful and cheerful throughout my visit. As mentioned elsewhere, there's an underground line under the hotel and I can report that you can still hear it on the 8th floor. Also the window wasn't soundproof so if you're a light sleeper it's not the place for you. The roof terrace and breakfast are both amazing. Close

From the moment we walked in until they collected our bags for departure, we were given a first rate service by everyone.The rooms on 7th and 8th floor were spotless,the breakfast plentiful and tasty and the friendliness of the staff better than seen in a long time-will definitely be returning.The hotel is central to everything-metro, tour bus and harbour. When we checked in, I was told that we had a twin room despite stating I wanted a double when booking. They told me that if you want a guaranteed double bed then you need to ask for Matrimonial. Also, the heating didn't work in our room and it was like a fridge - they offered us blankets... suprisingly I declined and went for the room change! Apart from that the hotel is in a great location, but above the subway. So it does rattle a fair bit every time a train passes under - and we were on the 7th floor. Would I stay here again? probably not, but I'd try one very close as it is just where you need to be. Close

Location is perfect, 10 mins to Marina, 15 mins to beach, across the road from metro stop, 5 mins to Born area. Hotel, clean, smart, friendly staff, room is small but wasn't in it a lot. Tip... more

Location is perfect, 10 mins to Marina, 15 mins to beach, across the road from metro stop, 5 mins to Born area. Hotel, clean, smart, friendly staff, room is small but wasn't in it a lot. Tip, ask for a higher floor as we were on 1st and could hear the rumble of the metro and the street noise - which you wouldn't hear if you were higher. If I went back to Barcelona I would go back. First visit to Barcelona booked B and B at this Hotel for 3 night city break basically due to its location. Positives are - easy walking distance to La Rambla, to the Cathedrals, to the Port and the numerous cafes and restaurants, hotel buffet breakfast here is superb, bathroom lovely,roof top views amazing. Disappointments are - hotel is very small, probably not 4 *, the bar and seating area just inside the main entrance are just ok, small restaurant is in basement no windows, we could hear the rumbling of the underground metro up on floor 4....but main disappointment was our room 407, it was tiny, no view,one locked window which looked out into a small central courtyard (actually this is a covered light well to provide limited natural light into all rooms ending in 07 as they are boxed in ), room was so stuffy , air con not working , the fan worked but so loud, bed hard and no tea/coffee in room . Barcelona is fabulous - the Montcada was ok for the price ...be prepared as there are other hotels in this great location. Close
