A double room in the more modern part of this basic hotel provided us with a shining clean en suite shower room with powerful ,hot shower, Unusually high quality toilet roll!
The pine bed was comfortable and had bright white linen.
An effective air conditioning unit providing a gentle source of warm air.
The usual T.V,hair dryer and tea/coffee making facilities.
At breakfast we found plentiful hot and cold food.Upgrade from continental to full English for £4.
Quiet,restful ambience.Secure car parking for £10 daily.
The Docklands Light Railway station conveniently situated across the road for cheap travel into London. Best of all charmingly cheerful and helpful staff.

Stayed here for 2 nights in Summer 2009. Have been to London plenty times and always stayed more central but not having as much money this hotel was a cheap alternative.
The rooms were fine. They had everything you needed. The draw for this hotel for us was the parking. £10 for 24hours meant we could drive to London and have that extra freedom.
The DLR station is handy being right opposite the hotel and takes about 30 mins to get to Central London including a change onto the tube.
If you're looking for a cheap place to stay whilst exploring this great city then this is definetly an option.

we stayed at the custom hotel for New year celebrations for 2 nights. the staff were friendly, the room was very basic and very clean. however the mattress was very hard and room very small- the shower was not great- not much pressure and felt i was in a cubical at a camping site. also in the toilet. if going for leisure would advise to go somewhere more central to attractions as had to change tubes twice which took us an hour from central London. only big let down was the mattress did not sleep well and very stiff when i woke up.not good when all you want is comfort after a long active day.
p.s had to queue up for breakfast for 20 minutes self service-which 1 or 2 hot food items had not been replaced-so had to do without beans with my fry up-doh!

we stayed at this hotel on NYE paid nearly double the normal price. We had to rush out and didnt get a chance to check the rooms throughly. On the way back from our NYE celebrations we found the room was freezing heating doesnt work properly. In the morning the hot water didnt work we called the reception who told us somebody was going to come up nobody did. The bathroom and toilets are one unit like a aeroplane cabin no baths. we were not offered any sort of money back or any sort of compensation in the morning.

The Custom House Hotel is excellent in most respects - clean rooms (the bathroom is a small prefabricated pod, but I personally don't have any objections there) and pretty quiet. The reason for that is that it is not near the centre of London at all and if you're looking for a restaurant round about prepare to be disappointed. Having said that, transport to London is straightforward - get on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) opposite and central London is 15/20 minutes away. Breakfasts - cooked or continental - are prettty decent. All in all it is a good hotel for businessmen/women or single travellers but not too great for families.
