A nice hotell, only 50 meteres from the main shopping street. Very helpfull people. Had some truble with the tv and safe, but nothing big. Normal good breakfast. Cool design in the rooms and reception. Small hotell bar, but only 50 meters from the hotell a big pub is located. And it´s open untill 05,30 in the morning :-) Close

We stayed at the Thingholt for only one night on a stopover in Reykjavik on the way from Seattle to Copenhagen. The hotel has nice design and a very central downtown location but what really distinguishes the Thingholt is the front desk staff. Both staff members that we interacted with were very very willing to help with our every request -- from directions, meals and transportation ... even going so far as check us in to our next flight, print our boarding passes and put out some breakfast (really decent croissants) earlier than scheduled on Monday morning as we had an early flight. They also happily accommodated our special request for a higher floor although the room they intended to give us on the 4th floor was held up a bit due to a late checkout. A note about the location. The Thingholt does not front on Laugavegur (the main shopping street) or Bankastraeti (which essentially turns into Lauvavegur). It faces Thingholtsstraeti, a side street without any apparent nightlife. However the hotel door is about 100 feet from the main street. Our stay was on a Sunday night so we missed the noise that apparently goes along with the Friday and Saturday night bar/club crowds and we had a peaceful night's sleep. However there was ample evidence that the noise from the Saturday PM/Sunday AM crowd was substantial. When we arrived about 8:30am on Sunday there were still a few people walking around drinking and the street cleaning crew were sweeping and hosing along a huge pile of broken glass on Laugavegur. Bars close at 6am, I was told, so there is a substantial likelihood that there will be significant noise on a typical weekend night in the streets around the Thingholt. The hotel also has a ground (0) floor bar and when we checked out around 4:30am on Monday there was fairly loud music in the lobby/bar. First floor rooms above the bar might hear noise from the bar. Overall we were happy with the value of the room and we really liked the staff. However we would likely stay elsewhere for a weekend stay because of the location and prospect of noise. Close

This was the most reasonable 4-star hotel that I have ever stayed at. While the hotel is not much to look at from the outside, the inside is well appointed and maintained. My room was modern with a spacious bathroom, queen size bed, sofa and flat panel. Significantly, the hotel's location could not be better. It is located only a few meters off of the main strip of shops, restaurants and bars. Virtually everything is within walking distance. Lastly, the hotel staff was always professional, friendly and more than willing to help us at every turn. I highly recommend this hotel. Close

We stayed here for 4 nights recently. First problem was that when we arrived at 3 am they had no record of our reservaton. We booked through Last Minute and the booking just wasn't with them. Although this wasn't their fault, the guy on reception was great and upgraded us to a Junior Suite for the inconvenience. Unfortunately although the room was at the rear, the noise from the clubs on the main street were loud, so we asked to move. The next room we were given was even worse, so we stayed put in our original room! We thought we'd put the TV on to drown out the noise, but it didn't work, and despite informing Reception, it never got fixed. Not too much of a hassle, but it's good to see the news first thing in the morning. Our room was large with a huge white leather sofa, king size bed, lounge chair and desk. Decor was a bit bizarre with animal hides on the floor and rubber flooring. But it was meant to reflect Icelandic nature. Bathroom was different. Glass partitioned from the bedroom so if you're a prude, beware! Reception staff were great. Always friendly and helpful. If you want the nightlife you can't fault the location of the hotel. We weren't there for that though so maybe a location further out of the centre would have suited us better. The only reason I've not rated 4 star, is because of the noise, but I guess that should be expected. Close

So it looks a bit plain on the outside, once you get in the decor in the reception area and bar are very chic and this continues through out the hotel. The rooms are an ok size but are a bit cramped in places. The breakfast was of a really good quality with plenty on offer and the staff helpful and friendly. Pretty much any of the attractions, shopping, bars and restaurants are all a short walk away. Only note of caution is that the rooms towards the main street can be a bit noisy at the weekend so make sure that you ask for one towards the rear if you aren't planning on being out intil 6am Close
